Country Rhodes Family Farm - Visalia
Phil Rhodes Family Farms is located in Visalia where they grow tomatoes, onions, five varieties of eggplants, and Hungarian sweet peppers. They also grow grapes, pluots, Asian pears, nectarines, plums, and crimson grapes, their brown turkey figs are one of their specialties.
Farming has been a part of the Rhodes family since the early 1940s. Phil’s grandfather bought the property and started a very successful fruit stand. After his death, Phil’s father took over the farm and later incorporated a nursery into the business.
Phil took on the duties of managing the farm in the mid-nineties and began growing a larger variety of vegetables, such as tomatoes, with the help of greenhouses. The farm now has eleven greenhouses and houses the nursery on its property. Phil’s favorite part of being a farmer is the independence farming gives him. "I enjoy being my own boss and not having to report to anyone," says Phil.
Phil Rhodes Family Farm participates in fifteen farmers’ markets every week and they love interacting with their customers. They enjoy visiting with their regular customers, many have become close friends with the Rhodes, and catching up.
