Cream of the Crops, by Olga Bier

End of the Season Here, November 19, 2009

It’s hard to believe that we are just a short time away from our Thanksgiving holiday!  And so, too, we have come to the end of Martinez’ Pacific Coast Farmer’s Market Thursday event.  Luckily we are in an area where other nearby Markets are still in session, but it was certainly nice to host our own for this past season.  Thanks must go to Market Manager Sameer Poudyal who made ours a varied and attractive place to get our fresh fruits and veggies for this past season.

Market Fresh, by Peggy Fallon

The best-fresh produce of CAL, November 1, 2009

With December upon us, most Americans look forward to a new administration and eventual relief from the financial meltdown that plagued the final days of 2008. This cautious optimism affects all that we do, including our spending habits. Lavish holiday gifts routinely exchanged during times of prosperity are now viewed with careful consideration.

Kaiser Santa Teresa This Week

Cauli-tha-Flower, March 3, 2009

Let’s Talk Cauliflower! Cauliflower likes to grown in cool moist areas, so the foggy coastal climates of the California central coast are prime cauliflower growing areas. California is the leading supplier in the United States. And cauliflower isn’t just white anymore! There are wonderful varieties that come in purple, orange, green, and yellow. The color makes very little difference to the taste, but the orange variety has 25 times more vitamin A than the white variety! All colors are high in nutritional density and loaded with fiber.
